1) SUPPORTING STATEMENT OF dr. Dallas l. Peck, DECEASED, FORMER Director, U.S. Geological Survey 1981-1993
Dr. Dallas L. Peck. Dr. Peck studied the granitic rocks of the Sierra Nevada and mapped the Merced Peak and Yosemite Geologic Quadrangles of Yosemite National Park. He also did research at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory and was head of the Survey's Geologic Division before being the Survey Director from 1981-1993. He trained astronauts and staffed mission control rooms in the space program. He earned the Department of Interior Meritorious and Distinguished Service awards and the Presidential Meritorious Executive award and was active in academic, scientific, national, and international organizations.
