STATUS REPORT OF SEPTEMBER 21, 2007

The U.S.G.S. Board on Geographic Names will meet October 3, 2007, at Lexington, Kentucky. Dr. Owen Hoffman of our Name4Carl Committee has been allowed time for a short presentation on our proposal to formally name Sharsmith Peak. The Board does not plan on voting on the Sharsmith Peak proposal at that meeting. Our last information is that the Board is still awaiting responses to its call for comments from the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service, Tuolumne County, and local Indian groups. Additional positive responses have been sent to the Board by supporting individuals or transmitted to the Board for them by this committee. However, because of the negative response to the U.S.G.S. Board from the California Advisory Committee on Geographic Names (text of this just found 09/21/2007) and from Dr. Jan vanWagtondonk your committee is now reconsidering how to achieve its aim.
