80) SUPPORTING STATEMENT OF DR. JULIA PARKER
Dr. Julia Parker. Native American from central California coast, married to Ralph Parker, native American from Yosemite region. Dr. Parker developed a career as a cultural demonstrator with a specialty in basketweaving and native food preparation, presenting these lifeways at the Yosemite Museum. Her works are in many collections, as detailed in her statement below. She has demonstrated and instructed at the Smithsonian Institution and other venues and has been presented the honorary doctor degree from the Fine Arts College of San Francisco. She is a 2007 Honoree of the National Council for the Arts. She organized a trek along prehistoric trade routes over the Sierra Nevada from Yosemite Valley to the Mono Lake area, not far from the informally-named Sharsmith Peak. She has been honored as the Grand Marshal of the Mariposa County, California, fair. She has passed on her talents to her own children and grandchildren.
